Printer: Narrow Carriage (80 Columns, 10″), 9 pins
Ribbon: SP-16051
Emulation(s): Epson FX-80, IBM 5152 Graphics Printer

* All versions of Microsoft Windows have both the IBM and Epson print drivers bundled with them. Seikosha does NOT supply these print drivers.

DIP SWITCH SETTINGS

The DIP switches are located at the back of the printer. They are covered by a small plastic insert. For most uses, these switches can be left as they were set at the factory. Each switch has two positions: when the switch is moved down, it if OFF; when it is moved up, it is ON. The DIP switches are read after the initialization process either by turning the power switch on or inputting the INITIAL signal of the parallel interface.

Table 1
Note 1:
Standard and IBM modes are selected only by using DIP switch 1-5. There is no control code to designate Standard or IBM mode.

Note 2:
In Standard mode, the 1.5 K-bytes of RAM area is used as either download area or communication buffer. Therefore, when the DIP switch 1-6 is turned off, the printer has the 1.5 K-bytes communication buffer and when on, no communication buffer is available.

International Characters Selected by DIP Switches

Table 2
Note 1:
These character selections are valid for all character sets: Standard character set, IBM character set 1, and IBM character set 2.

Note 2:
When DENMARK is selected by the DIP switches in IBM character set 2 mode, code (9B)Hex, or (155)Decimal will print a small slashed-zero, and code (9D)Hex, or (157)Decimal will print a large slashed-zero.

DIP SWITCH SETTINGS

Note: The printer’s power must be turned OFF before making any DIP switch changes.

The switches are located at the back of the printer under the plastic lid.

The DIP switches are read after the initialization process either by turning the power switch on or inputting the INITIAL signal of the parallel interface.
For the DIP switch 1-7, however, its changeover is always valid.

When shipped from the factory, all switches except for international character switches are turned OFF.

*1 If the power is turned on with this DIP siwtch 1-1 set ON, the printer is put in the error state.
*2 If DIP switch 2-4 is turned ON, a skup-over perforation area of 1 inch is set.

Table 2. International Characters Selected by DIP Switches

Note 1: These character selections are valid for all the character sets: Standard character set, IBM character set 1, and IBM character set 2.

Note 2: When DENMARK is selected in the Standard Character Set and in the IBM Character Set 1, the above DENMARK characters are available. However, when DENMARK is selected in the IBM Character Set 2, the U.S.A. characters become available, and the code (9B)Hex or (155)Decimal corresponds to the print-out of a small slashed zero and the code (9D)Hex or (157)Decimal, to the print-out of a large slashed zero.

DIP SWITCH SETTINGS

Note: The printer’s power must be turned OFF before making any DIP switch changes.

CAUTION: If you have been printing, allow the print head to cool down before touching it.

To set the DIP switches:
1. Open the printer cover.
2. Remove the ribbon cassette.
3. Manually push the print head to the right side of the printer.
4. Grasp the fin of the compartment cover on the mechanical frame. Slide it to the left, and remove it.

5. After setting the DIP switches, replace the compartment cover, re-install the ribbon cassette and replace the printer cover.

Note: The current DIP switch settings list can be printed by pressing down and holding the ON LINE switch when turning on the printer. Be sure to install paper before this operation.

The DIP switches are read after the initialization process either by turning the power switch on or inputting the INITIAL signal of the parallel interface.

Table 1 Notes:
1. The boldface words show the factory settings.
2. Setting can be changed by software.
3. The communication buffer size is reduced from 20K bytes to 5K bytes when using download character.

International Character Selection
When the DIP switch 5 is set to OFF or when the Italic character set is selected by software control (ESC4 command code), the following international character selection is available from the DIP switch 6 to 8.
